Cocaine Addiction: Adults Getting Hooked

Cocaine Addiction: Adults Getting Hooked

Cocaine is one of the more expensive drugs. Cocaine has been exploited in movies and in the press when celebrities such as models and Lindsay Lohan are caught using it. The street names for cocaine are coca, crack, rock, 8ball, powder, white, blow, sugar, coke, white girl, and crack rock. Cocaine is an extract from the leaves of a bush. Cocaine is very addictive and comes in powder, solid known as rock or crack rock.

Powder Cocaine - dissolves in water and users can snort or inject it. When it is snorted users take a “bump” or a “line.”

Crack Cocaine - a solid. It is made through a chemical process that leaves it in a “freebase” form that can be smoked. Usually smoked in a pipe or with aluminum foil.

Young males up to 25 are the biggest users, 8% using cocaine in the last year. 14% of adults in the US have used cocaine with one in 40 adults using within the past year. The effects are almost instant, interfering with the chemical messages of the brain. The effects of the high usually last from 30 minutes to 2 hours.

Cocaine Abuse Side effects - increase sense of energy and alertness, irritability, paranoia, anxiety, increased heart rate, feeling of invincibility, addiction, weight loss, withdraws, nose bleeds, deterioration of inner nose, trouble with sexual performance, heart attack, violent behavior, seizures, ulcers, kidney failure, and death.

Signs of cocaine use - dilated pupils, high levels of energy and activity, lack of appetite, excited speech, not sleeping, and lack of appetite.

Coke or Cocaine is highly addictive. A user is trying to achieve the same high that they felt on their first use, however, a user can never get the same high. It only takes a small amount of cocaine to become addicted. It only takes one use to overdose or die. Cocaine in the powder form is usually not pure. It is always “cut,” mixed with other products such as vitamin powder, heroine, laundry detergent, ect. Dealers will buy a small amount of cocaine because it is pricey. Then they cut the coke with other products to make a large amount of cocaine to sell, which earns a profit.
