Drug Abuse

Drug abuse is a devastating behavior which ruins not only the life of the addicted person, but the lives of all around the one who is addicted. Drug abuse may start in a very subtle way, like by simply taking a legitimate pain medication drug. The medication maybe and in many cases is prescribed by a doctor for a sound medical reason. It could be an injury or newly developed medical issue. It has been known that these pain medication drugs loose their initial effectiveness by constant use. So the patient will start taking more to compensate for the loss of effectiveness and before they know it they need to have more than the physician prescribed. When the patient starts to lie about the amount taken or going to more than one doctor to get the same medication, one can assume that it is the start of the drug abuse.

Signs of Drug Abuse

It is interesting to know that drug abuse can start very benignly. Unlike some other addictions like gambling addiction or video game addiction drug addiction can start unknowingly by popping a pill before going to bed at night to "relax". It also could start by taking one too many pill to "take the edge off the pain". No matter how it starts, as time passes, there will be physical, behavioral and psychological signs that point clearly to drug abuse. Some drugs like alcohol, heroin and Methamphetamine make obvious physical changes in the appearance of the person and some like cocaine and marijuana affect the brain before any physical changes appears.

Symptoms of drug abuse

Addictive behaviors result largely from the effects of prolonged drug exposure on brain functioning.

Symptoms of drug abuse range from physical to mental changes to the body.
Unless embarking on an effective drug treatment or alcohol treatment drug abuse can go on for long period of time without noticable symptoms, and then it will manifest itself by preventing the afflicted from participating in the daily life process. Without correcting the abusive behavior, and changing the core beliefs on the part of the person indulging in drug abuse, the abusive action will decimate that person's life as he or she knows it. The symptoms of the drug abuse can simply be the fact that the abuser "get used to" to their addictive behaviors and not be accountable for their choices and actions with regards to drug abuse. Other symptoms of drug abuse can be the fact the afflicted individual cannot resolve interpersonal conflicts and develop difficulty in his or her marriage and/or family dynamics.
