Couple Found Hanging in Parkland Shared
Taste for Recreational Drugs
Couple found hanging in Parkland shared taste for
recreational drugs, friends say, is the title of
a news article found in the sun-sentinel.com, a
South Florida online newspaper. The content of the
article described a relationship filled with drug
abuse and an unexpected hanging and attempted
suicide of a 22 year old male and a 24 year old
female on Monday July 19, 2010. The male was pronounced
dead at a local hospital. The female is in critical
condition in another hospital.
Drug abuse and drug addiction
is often the catalyst for depression and suicide.
Clear and logical thinking and behavior is not
a common side effect of drug abuse. Common drugs
of abuse associated with drug overdoses: Benzodiazepines
are a class of drugs that produce central nervous
system (CNS) depression and that are most commonly
used to treat insomnia and anxiety. Alprazolam
(e.g., Xanax), lorazepam (e.g., Ativan), clonazepam
(e.g., Klonopin), diazepam (e.g., Valium), and
temazepam (e.g., Restoril) are the five
most prescribed, as well as the most frequently
encountered benzodiazepines on the illicit market.
Oxycodone is an opioid analgesic medication synthesized
from opium-derived thebaine. It was developed
in 1916 in Germany, as one of several new semi-synthetic
opioids in an attempt to improve on the existing
opiates and opioids:
morphine, diacetylmorphine (heroin),
and codeine. Currently it is best known as the
main active ingredient in a number of oral medications
commonly prescribed for the relief of moderate
to severe pain. Oxycodone
can be combined with inert binders (e.g., OxyContin,
Roxicodone, OxyIR); also known as acetaminophen
(e.g., Percocet, Endocet, Tylox, Roxicet);
with aspirin (e.g., Percodan, Endodan,
Roxiprin); and with ibuprofen.
There are far too many prescription
drugs, street drugs, club
drugs, and illicit recreational drugs to list
them in detail. Drug overdoses and suicide attempts
are not only the result of drug abuse associated
with particular drugs, it is also a result of
a combination of drugs, resulting in unexpected
side effects. For those people struggling with
drug abuse or drug addiction,
the most effective help is found in a residential
addiction treatment program. The Cove
Center For Recovery, is an adult and young adult
addiction treatment program,
offering premier therapeutic services and an individualized
recovery program, specifically designed to meet
the needs and struggles of each recovering person.
