Drug Detox in Connecticut / Drug Detoxification in Connecticut
Normally, those suffering from a drug addiction
cannot safely detox on their own. In fact, in some
cases, attempting to do so can be deadly. During
the drug detoxification process, the body is denied
the toxins usually accumulated by the drug, resulting
in uncomfortable and in some cases dangerous drug
withdrawal symptoms. Sometimes a drug with a similar
action is taken instead, to reduce the side effects
and risks of withdrawal. Detoxification is often
the first step in a drug addiction treatment program
and should be followed by addiction treatment therapies.
Behavioral-based therapy and/or a medication (if
necessary) are available during Drug Detoxification
in Connecticut. Detox alone with no follow-up is not
an addiction treatment.
There are a number of Connecticut drug detox programs
available. Studies have shown that inpatient drug
detox programs are usually more successful than
outpatient detox, due in large part to the fact
that they are medically based programs located
within a drug rehab facility or addiction treatment
center.

Alcohol Addiction Treatment in
Connecticut / Alcohol Rehab in Connecticut
Connecticut Alcohol Addiction programs are specifically
designed to help patients assess their dependency
and to abstain from alcohol use. Importantly,
the alcohol rehab programs offered to Connecticut
clients are evidence-based alcohol rehab programs
which might include medications that specifically
suppress the driving force of alcohol dependence.
Connecticut addiction treatment programs use a
cognitive behavioral therapy approach - how we
think (cognitive) and how we act (behavior). This
recognizes the powerful relationship between thoughts,
feelings and behavior and the impact it has on
addiction and therefore, recovery. Our alcohol
addiction treatment is designed to help people
explore feelings and behaviors which trigger the
need for alcohol. Read more on Alcoholism

Heroin Rehab in Connecticut /
Heroin Addiction Treatment in Connecticut
A range of treatments exist for heroin addiction,
including medications and behavioral therapies.
Science has taught us that when medication treatment
is combined with other supportive services, patients
are often able to stop using heroin (or other
opiates) and return to stable and productive lives.
Heroin addiction treatment usually begins with
medically assisted detoxification to help patients
withdraw from the drug safely. Medications such
as clonidine and, now, buprenorphine can be used
to help minimize symptoms of withdrawal. However,
detoxification alone is not treatment and has
not been shown to be effective in preventing relapse—it
is merely the first step. Read more on Heroin
Rehab in Connecticut.
Methamphetamine/Meth Rehab in
Connecticut / Meth Addiction Treatment in Connecticut
Currently, the most effective treatments for methamphetamine
addiction are comprehensive cognitive-behavioral
interventions. For example, the Matrix Model—a
behavioral treatment approach that combines behavioral
therapy, family education, individual counseling,
12-step support, drug testing, and encouragement
for non drug-related activities—has been
shown to be effective in reducing methamphetamine
abuse. Contingency management interventions, which
provide tangible incentives in exchange for engaging
in treatment and maintaining abstinence, have
also been shown to be effective. There are no
medications at this time approved to treat methamphetamine
addiction; however, this is an active area of
research for NIDA. Read more on Meth
Rehab in Connecticut.
Prescription Drug Rehab in Connecticut/
Prescription Drug Addiction Treatment in Connecticut
Several options are available for effectively
treating addiction to prescription drugs
in Connecticut, depending on the medication
being abused. Approaches to treating addiction
to pain relievers are drawn from research on treating
addiction
to heroin, also an opioid, and include medications
such as naltrexone, methadone, and buprenorphine,
combined with behavioral counseling.
NIDA's National Drug Abuse Treatment Clinical
Trials Network is sponsoring the first large-scale,
multi-site study to test the effectiveness of
buprenorphine/naloxone – a medication used
to treat heroin addiction – as a treatment
for addiction to prescription pain medication.
Treatment of addiction to prescription
stimulants, such as Ritalin, is often based on
behavioral therapies that have proven effective
in treating addiction
to cocaine and methamphetamine. While no medications
have yet proven effective for the treatment of
stimulant addiction, NIDA is supporting a number
of studies examining medications with this potential.
