two-day Family Workshop. Using the family systems
approach, the family and/or significant others are
given education and therapy to help them cope with
the impact of the problem in their own lives.
Patient and family members are taught to be respectful
and to communicate openly and directly with each
other. The family is given insights regarding boundaries
and self-care as they relate to their relationship
with the patient.
The program concludes with the family members exchanging
positive affirmations and setting of future goals.
The newly sober patient practices, develops, and
strengthens their recovery behaviors while using
their alliance with The Family as a therapeutic
and supportive resource. This is an opportunity
to develop a sense of comfort in their sober lifestyle
before being discharged from treatment. Family workshop
is extremely valuable to families as it greatly
enhances the patient’s recovery process.
