Oxycontin Addiction and Recovery

Cove Center For Recovery - Testimonial - Xanax and Alcohol Addiction and Recovery

When I called The Cove Center for Recovery, I was on shaky grounds with my job, my husband was preparing to leave our marriage, and I knew I could not take care of myself, nor could I take care of our 2 year old daughter. It was all a result of my addiction to Xanax and alcohol. I could not believe things got so out of control.

I had a great guy, who was trying to be patient, love me, and help me. I didn’t want the help. I didn’t want to stop drinking or using Xanax. I refused to admit that I had a problem, even though I knew I was struggling. I was getting frustrated with the demands of a young child. Even though my husband helped me with our daughter, I felt stressed out and overwhelmed. Outpatient therapy wasn’t helping. Marital therapy wasn’t helping. Nothing was working.

I finally pushed things to the limit when I got loaded one night and started a fight with my husband. I stumbled out to my car, screaming at him and telling him he was crazy. He took the keys to my car but I had a spare key. I got in my car and drove off. I didn’t get far. I drove into a tree, two streets from my house. I vaguely remember the police officers speaking with me. I woke up with a horrible headache, in a jail cell with horrible looking people. I was finally ready to do something different.

When my husband bailed me out of jail (in disbelief and astonishment), I was so thankful to see him and so stunned by the level of destruction my drinking and drug use had taken me, that I promised myself that I would not let my life be destroyed over addiction. I did not want my daughter to live with an alcoholic and addicted mother. I did not want my husband to be fearful of the safety of our child or our lives. I started calling treatment centers for help immediately. Every telephone number I called was either a voice mail or call center directing me to some other treatment center. Finally, I called the Cove Center for Recovery, and owner answered the telephone. He said he liked to take the incoming calls. I was so impressed that the owner was available to speak with me and my husband, that I immediately motioned to my husband to pack my bags. I knew the Cove was the place for me.

The first two weeks were terrible. I began to feel emotions. I had to face issues. I was held accountable for my choices and actions. It was tough. But without those first two weeks, I would not have appreciated the days and weeks that followed. The Cove Center for Recovery gave me the tools I needed to manage my life and recovery. The Cove helped my husband and I to learn to communicate with each other and begin to rebuild our relationship, not just our marriage. I am a better mother, wife, and woman because of the time I spent in the Cove Center for Recovery. I am strong in my recovery. I will always be a recovering person.

Thanks to all the staff and the owners of the Cove, who I will always remember for their determination to help the most difficult, tolerate the most intolerable, and embrace anyone who seeks recovery. I will never be the same….thanks to the Cove Center for Recovery.

Sincerely,

Katie M.
