What are mood disorders?
Mood disorders are categorized as a mental illness that affects a major change in mood. Some well-known mood disorders include bipolar disorder and depression. These disorders can also wreak havoc in everyday life making it extremely difficult to function. If left untreated mood disorders can lead to self-medication through harmful methods such as drug abuse and self-harm.
What causes a mood disorder?
The cause of mood disorders is a combination of environmental, psychological, biological and genetic factors. The most widely accepted cause is the theory involving an imbalance of neurotransmitters and the chemicals they produce for the brain. This combination of chemicals and various determinants cause mood disorders such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD to form.
