What is Trichotillomania?
Trichotillomania or hair pulling is an impulsive disorder that causes people to willingly pull out their hair when feeling stressed or under pressure. Common areas for pulling are from the head, eyebrows, eyelashes, and hands.
What causes hair pulling?
Trichotillomania has no exact origin, but has been connected to the pathways that link habits, impulses and emotional movement together.This is also known as BFRB or Body Focused Repetitive Behavior. These behaviors are repetitive self grooming behaviors that damages the individuals appearance.
Signs of Trichotillomania:
- Hair loss
- Excessive use of hats and scarves
- Avoiding social situations
