What is EMDR?

EMDR is an integrative form of psychotherapy used to relieve participants of stress and trauma through various approaches. There are eight phases within the treatment which helps clients to see disturbing or distressing memories in a positive fashion.

The eight phases in this treatment:

  • History and Treatment planning
  • Preparations
  • Assessments
  • Desensitization
  • Installation
  • Body Scan
  • Closure
  • Revaluation

These phases are carefully executed to treat and monitor patients undergoing major trauma. Combined techniques have been researched by an array of therapist to ensure the success of this treatment. Depending on the severity of the patient’s diagnosis, each phase of the treatment can take one to four sessions.

EMDR therapy is a great way to relieve adults in addiction recovery of their suffering from drug and alcohol addiction. These addictions often stem from traumatic memories and are used as an easy way to suppress them. EMDR treatment helps address the painful memories that has often caused these addictions.
