What is Drug Addiction?
Addiction to drugs is a complex behavior which requires the person struggling with it to go through drug treatment in a systematic way. Drug treatment or drug rehabilitation referred to also as drug addiction treatment is generally performed in a hospital environment or in drug rehab centers. There are many drug treatment programs for addictions like, prescription drug addiction as well as hard drug addictions like heroin and cocaine addictions. Addiction is characterized by deep, uncontrollable cravings, along with compulsive drug seeking and addictive behaviors that inflicted individuals demonstrate.

Drug use always starts as a willful choice, but eventually the drug or alcohol becomes an addiction and an individual’s ability to stop the use is confronted with physical and mental discomfort, blurring the lines between choice and need, which is actually the symptoms of drug abuse. Each addiction has its own signs and symptoms, as sings of Gambling addiction not only obviously are different than other addictions but the symptoms are manifested differently as well. Alcohol abuse, similarly is treated in an alcohol treatment program facility. Since drug addiction disrupts so many aspects of an individual’s life, its treatment is not simple. Effective treatment incorporates different components directed to particular aspects of the illness and its consequences. Drug treatment must help the individual stop using drugs, maintain a drug-free lifestyle, and achieve productive functioning in the family, at work, and in society. Because addiction is typically a chronic disease, people cannot simply stop using drugs or alcohol for a few days and be cured. Most patients addicted to drugs and alcohol require long-term or repeated episodes of care to achieve the ultimate goal of sustained abstinence of drug and alcohol, and recovery of their lives.

The Cove Center for Recovery Drug Treatment
The Cove Center for Recovery drug treatment program allows the patient/client to work through many emotional conflicts within the safe boundaries of our facility. Individuals suffering from drug addiction move through levels and are assisted in developing living skills, interpersonal skills and relapse prevention skills. In addition to the regular program, patients attend special workshops designed to meet their needs and attend on-site tutorial services to help them reach their educational goals. The setting at The Cove is designed for our program to allow room for exploration and meditation.
The Cove’s program provides treatment for patients whose addictive disease, emotional and behavioral problems prevent adequate functioning in a less restrictive setting. It is the philosophy of the staff at The Cove that these behaviors are symptoms of deeper problems that may include difficulties in the emotional life of the patient and his/her family and friends. This philosophy promotes the provision of a secure, structured environment to address chemical dependence, inclusive of these difficulties while encouraging independence and self esteem for the individual. It further promotes that every effort be made to involve the family in an intensive family program, as all members are adversely affected by chemical dependency.
